Hydraulic Manufacturing

Our 5,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Burton upon Trent contains fitting areas, a machine shop and offices, which together enable us to handle all hydraulic manufacturing and repairs requirements. Our production area is clean, well-organised and manned by experienced production engineers who are able to produce large, high quality assemblies using the latest, state-of-the-art equipment. We also have facilities for painting and stove enamelling. Find out more about our manufacturing capacity by visiting Active Engineering online.

Hydraulic Testing

Active Engineering provides a comprehensive development and hydraulic testing service to prove the reliability and performance of our systems. This involves testing and measuring hydraulic pressure and flow to ensure that the equipment is running to specification, as well as recording temperature to ensure that it is safe and reliable. Noise levels can also be measured; this is often a requirement for equipment that is to be used in noise-sensitive areas. If you would like to find out more about our hydraulic equipment testing services, please visit Active Engineering online or get in touch on 01283 569003.

Bespoke Hydraulic Powerpacks

Active Engineering has a wealth of experience in the design and manufacture of bespoke hydraulic systems. This includes the production of hydraulic powerpacks. These are available in electric (2.2kW, 5.5kW, 7.5kW, 15kW, 30kW) and diesel versions (8hp, 10hp, 20hp, 35hp, 110hp), and are made with automatic safety control on low oil level and high oil temperature, allowing the units to run unattended. Our powerpacks are easily maintained and are designed for reliable service over a long period of time. Find out more by visiting Active Engineering online.

Reverse Engineering

The engineering team at Active has the combined knowledge and experience to recreate equipment that may no longer be available, a process known to industry professionals as reverse engineering. We’ll not only recreate the original pattern work but also ensure that the product is brought up to date with modern standards and regulations. One recent example was a sand ejector, a piece of equipment that helps to increase wheel/rail adhesion by blowing sand on the rail. The original product brought to us by the customer had been designed in the 1940s and 50s: we created the castings and re-engineered the components so that between 20 and 50 new sand ejectors could be made each year.

Dredging System

At Active Engineering, we’re often asked if we can help solve a particular problem that a client is having trouble with, and more often than not we’re able to say “yes”. Our strength lies in our ability to develop bespoke hydraulic systems that provide a practical, affordable solution to the task in hand. One such system was the dredger pictured on the right; it was built for a customer that needed to clear settled sludge that had been in place for more than 20 years. In just three weeks we took this particular machine from ‘fag packet sketch’ to a fully operational machine.

If you need a bespoke solution with a fast turnaround, give Active Engineering a call on 01283 569003.

Rail Component Bleed Valve

Another custom solution provided by Active was the bleed valve pictured to the right. This was commissioned by a major locomotive building company which needed a valve that would allow maintenance on oil-cooled transformers without causing potentially hazardous spillages. The valve is now used on shuttle locomotives operating from Folkestone to Calais in the Channel Tunnel; more than 600 of them are currently in service.
